Business Web Applications

Constructing a custom designed web application can be an expensive prospect. It's best to see if any turnkey solutions already exist. If you've looked at the existing products on the market and found none that quite meet your needs then its time to consider a custom design. The fist step is to decide if you want a local developer or an offshore application developer. Offshore development can shave 60% off the total cost of development. Many people can't conceive of building a complex application without face to face meetings. Yet after that first initial meeting you will find that even with a local developer, most of your communication is via phone and email. What's more, even with a face to face meeting there is still the possibility for the developer to miss capturing your true requirements! If the requirements are off you are not going to get the application you desired. WildWebWidget always constructs detailed proposal before each project to make sure this doesn't happen. Proposals are free. Be sure to read about our other success stories below.

Case Study: Childcare Database Search

Career/Life Alliance Services (CLAS) offers a wide range of services for large corporations and small businesses that are offering work and family benefits for the first time, including; Flexible Work Arrangement, Emergency Dependent Care and Corporate Recovery Planning. WildWebWidget was commissioned to build a web application for child care referral. The child care database was divided into the following major search categories:

  • Homes
  • Centers
  • Community Education Programs
  • Preschools
  • Camps
  • Nanny Agencies
  • Care For Mildly Ill
  • Sitter Services
  • Adoption & General Resources
  • Preschool Information

Complete information on each provider was stored in a relational database (SQL Server) hosted on the internet. Users looking for childcare are able to search location via a number of categories; city, school district, zip code, as well as a number of special provider features such as pet ownership, languages spoken, and more. Providers found during a search can be selected and assembled into a print friendly detailed report. Here is the search page:

Administrators of this web application use a back-end interface to add new providers and maintain the database. The tools were custom designed to accommodate workflow procedures and speed data-entry. For instance, on the hours of operation page there is a button to copy the hours entered for Monday to Tue-Wen-Thu-Fri. Utilization reporting statistics are also built into the system allowing administrators to see what pages are being visited, what areas and provider types are being searched for. Here is an example:

The search system is integrated with a dynamic map display(MapTuitmaps.com) indicating the geographic location of the child care providers found. The system first interfaces via XML to geocode the addresses found. It then requests a map display with markers indicating the provider locations.
